Get to know featured editorial artist: Sarajane Maples
Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
My name is Sarajane Maples, I have been an stylist for almost 8 years! I’ve been doing upstyling and weddings before I even got my license. I worked with my mentor and friend Casey Powell ( updoguru ) who taught me soooo much!! About three years ago I created “blushandmane” and I have been living every second of it!!
How do you stay inspired to create your new looks? Favorite artists to follow?
Lately I have been getting inspired by a lot of art outside of the hair world, like painters, jewelers, etc.. The different braiding techniques jewelers use are insane and I’ve been trying to translate that over to hair. I also get TONS of inspo from street fashion.
My favorite artists to follow are Mark Leeson, Annie Ankervik, and Efi Davies they are incredible!!
What new trends in styling can we look forward to?
I think we will see a lot of accessories making there way back into hair. The 90s are back!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I CAN NOT live without my marcel iron!!
Best advice to give an artist who is wanting to break into doing editorial work?
Just start!! At first I was terrible and had no idea what I was doing but then the more you shoot the better you understand how hair and light work.
What hidden talents do you have that you could share with us?
I used to play the Tuba all through school! I still read music well!
