Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Before I even started cosmo school I taught myself how to braid for fun. I would watch YouTube tutorials for hours which eventually had me trying to create my own fun and new styles! I LOVED the boho, lived in, messy look that was becoming more and more popular and I think I’ve stayed pretty try to that style even now. My friends talked me into starting an Instagram, which I was very apprehensive about, but looking back I’m so so glad I did. The passion that I found for braiding/styling is actually what got me into school, and is my favorite part about doing hair today!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I’ve gone through a lot of different products throughout the last few years but the one that I’ve always kept is a good Texturing/Volume Powder! I use it to add natural volume, grit to the hair for braiding or for my super fine/thin haired clients! Also a good texture spray!
Artists that you love to follow that inspire you the most?
From the beginning Amanda, also known as Blohaute, as inspired me to braid! I used to stalk her page like CRAZY. I’m currently obsessed with Jen Atkin and Justine Marian, who are celebrity stylists.
What trends are you loving right now?
I will always love big, beachy, textured waves but right now I love the new trend with different bobby-pins placements as accent pieces. I saw so much of that for NYFW and I’m obsessed.
What are some of your favorite braids/looks to create?
I love a big chunky Dutch fishtail! I also find myself doing a lot of topsy Turvey styles!
Best advice you can give on how to get your work noticed on Instagram?
Post good, consistent content that your audience is actually looking for. For instance, I notice that my braid pics do way better than when I post color, which is okay but when I was just building my page I would only post what got more attention. Try and get noticed or create relationships with bigger brands and platforms on social media, networking is KEY! And of course always be supportive and humble and LOVE what you do.
With so many apps to choose from, what are some of your favorites to use for Instagram?
I will ever edit my braid pics (never color pics) with Facetune or Lightroom. I use Layout for my side-by-sides! I try not to use too many editing apps so that my pictures look clear and natural!
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to go to music festivals! We’ve been to one at least once a month for over a year now, which doesn’t help my bank account, but it’s worth it! I’m also a professional Netflix binger. 🙂
Guilty pleasures?
I love a good book. I love to travel even if it’s not very far away. I have a bag of hot Cheetos almost every day, definitely my biggest guilty pleasure! And laying out by a good Vegas pool (which is random but so much fun).
