SARA VANDERSTELT
Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I am a 22 girl who loves what she does! Styling is my passion and I am so thankful that I get to call this my career. I have always wanted to do a job where I was serving others. So I thought why not do something that I really enjoy and make others feel beautiful while doing it. That’s when I fell in love with hairstyling. I have been a bridal stylist the past 4 years and I absolutely LOVE it! I feel so blessed by the Lord that he has given me the most rewarding job!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I am loving loving loving those textured,Messy looks. I don’t come across too many brides wanting a super sleek updo anymore. I love how that effortless style is so in!
What new trends can we look forward to?
I’m thinking that boho, effortless look is going to stay for quite some time. So we can look forward to seeing more and more taking on those tousled looks!
How do you stay inspired?
I stay inspired by following other stylist in the bridal industry. I love learning from others! There is always room to grow and learn from others. New tips and tricks and how they have a different take on styling.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Keep practicing! I know everyone says it but it’s sooo true! The more you practice the more comfortable you will be with styling! You have to have fun with it also! Do fun styles and get out of your comfort zone. Try new things!
Start a social media page! ( Instagram, Pinterest ect. ) Post your work everyday!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
The first thing I ask a bride when we are going over styles is- What is your style of the wedding? What does your dress look like? That way you can see a visual for yourself and help her choose a hairstyle that would fit her style.
Ask her what she feels comfortable with. The last thing you want on your wedding day is to not feel like yourself. Is there certain styles she doesn’t feel comfortable with? ( ex. An updo when she never ever wears her hair up)
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I cannot live without “Puff me” by design me and the tool I can’t live without would have to be my wand.
Favorite apps to use for social media?
I love the app aviary. It’s a picture app. It helps with the color and clarity of the picture. You can customize it. My style I like to keep very white and clean, so I use that to keep the background white and crisp.
