ASHLEY FISHER
Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I started playing with braids when I was about 9 yrs old and taught myself to do more elaborate styles from there. As I got older, I continued to do my friends’ hair for all dances, and any special occasion. I eventually moved on to do weddings when I was in high school. After cosmetology school, I kept working on my bridal styling while in a salon until I moved to Charleston,SC and started my own bridal business! Now, I’ve had Ash and Co. for 10 years and still love it as much as I did when I was a child!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I am loving anything with a lot of interesting details and texture. I also love buns that are slightly higher up on the head instead of really low.
What new trends can we look forward to?
I am interested in seeing more of a retro style coming into the bridal world. More of a blown out curl instead of an iron and much more volume in the look.
How do you stay inspired?
Keeping your style new and fresh is so important!! I am constantly looking at older photos and past icons to get inspiration and then changing them to make it a relevant style. That’s a challenge, but it definitely inspires new ideas!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Turn your work into a brand. Make it undeniably your work. That’s what will set you apart from the others. Instead of trying to replicate someone else’s work, try to figure out a way to make it uniquely yours.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Know yourself! Even though you like an up style, if you’re uncomfortable with your hair up, it doesn’t matter how pretty it is- you won’t feel like you. There are always ways to incorporate elements that you like into a style that will make you feel like the best version of yourself.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
My Babyliss iron! It’s by far the best iron I’ve ever used! I also can’t live without Sally Beauty Supply Metagrip pins. They’re the best!
Best advice you have ever been given?
Take time to recharge. It’s easy to get overwhelmed in this industry, but it’s nearly impossible to do great work and feel creative when you’re exhausted. I usually feel the most inspired after a few days of rest.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to do anything that feels creative. That’s when I’m the most at peace. It could be anything from redecorating, painting, drawing, or sewing!
Guilty pleasures?
Crime documentaries.. and Chinese food.
