JUSTINE WOLFE

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I started working in a hair salon when I was 15 years old. I worked Thursday & Friday nights, Saturday’s and Sunday’s whilst at high school.
It was my dream to be a hairdresser – my mum literally did my homework for me some days then taught me what I missed before my exams. She thought it was so important for me to go to school and have a good education base, but knew deep down I was just braiding all the other girl’s hair in class lol!
From there, I began my apprenticeship when I was 17 and was a qualified hairdresser at 19. I worked for 20 years within the industry managing salons, in educator roles, and working within my own regular hairdressing business.
After I had my kids, I was a trainer and assessor at a hairdressing institute, and decided that I really wanted to pursue wedding styling on the weekends.
In the beginning it just made sense – the hours with little ones etc. but it didn’t take me long to fall head over heels in love with everything about styling hair, and helping women to look and feel amazing on their most special days.
I relaunched my creative baby Polished Style as a wedding and event hairstyling business 15 months ago. I have since added education to my offerings. It’s the best thing I have done for me, and I can’t wait to go to work everyday.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
It’s no secret I love a low bun in every single way.
I love styles that are effortless, natural and modern, that accentuate the beauty that is already there.
What new trends can we look forward to?
More boho lived in looks for sure. Imperfection is perfection in my eyes.
How do you stay inspired?
I am forever inspired by creating a full cohesive look. Complimenting a woman’s features, makeup, jewellery, outfit with a style that makes her feel like the most incredible version of herself is everything to me.
I love to practice style ideas that pop into my head – sometimes they are a total fail, but when they work out it’s the best thing ever!
Of course, I am always inspired by all of the other incredible artists out there. I love watching other creatives at work!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.
Strive for progress, not perfection – beating yourself up about imperfections will get you nowhere.
Keep practicing your craft as much as you can – I think it’s like learning a language, the more you practice, the better you get.
Celebrate your wins and great days and be proud of what you achieve!
Sit with your bad days for a minute then let them go – we all have moments of thinking we’re not good enough!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Go with what you feel comfortable wearing. Go for what suits your features and your personality – from the style, to the accessories and whether you have a veil or not.
Even if the style you choose is not someone else’s cup of tea, confidence is beauty and that vibe you ooze when you feel your best is undeniably captivating!
Choose a stylist who is on your level. Someone who will create your ideal look with you, and one who’s personality will compliment you and your bride tribe on your day.
Those memories are forever, we might as well make the most of them.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I heart my cloud 9 irons and absolutely couldn’t live without them in my kit. I have the original and the wide irons and love them both!
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Book your holidays wayyyy in advance, otherwise you will never get them!
What do you love to do outside of work?
Ohhh, I love to go on adventures with my husband and kids. We love the beach, festivals, winery lunches, catching up with friends and family
Guilty pleasures?
Friday date days with my husband while the kids are in daycare
Day naps
Wine and cheese for dinner
Going to the cinema on my own
