NATASHA ANN

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Hey, I’m Natasha! I am a bridal hairstylist living and working out of Jasper, AB and Kelowna, BC, Canada.
I have been in the hair industry since 2009, when I hired on as a receptionist/shampoo girl in a busy city salon.
In 2010 (fresh out of school) I bought a beautiful boutique salon in my home town of Jasper, which I loved dearly for 7 years. After selling the salon and travelling for a year, I decided I wanted to study Event Management— and that is where my love for the wedding industry grew!
Curling hair and making it look all pretty was always my favourite part when I was working in the salon— And the wedding industry was where I wanted to be.
So it all just clicked!
And I enrolled in my first bridal styling course in April, 2020.
It was a bit of a zig-zag to get here, but I am so happy and excited to see where this new path takes me!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m loving that undone/ effortless look. And all the new and modern accessories!
What new trends can we look forward to?
I think low sleek styles with big bold accessories, higher textured buns, and unique braids incorporated into styles.
How do you stay inspired?
Instagram! There are sooo many talented artists in this community that my mind is constantly going. I love looking at a hairstyle and trying to recreate it but in my own way.
AND Beyond The Ponytail Instagram Lives! Being new to styling I try to take in every little tip/ trick/ technique taught by other stylists. So the BTP lives are always super educational and inspiring!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Just go for it!
Learn as much as you can, make connections, and put yourself out there!
I dreamed about doing this for a year before getting brave enough to actually do it. The day I enrolled in my first styling course I promised myself I was just going to go for it, and I haven’t looked back since.
Best decision I’ve ever made!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Whether you are a boho goddess— or a sleek modern type— pick a style that represents who you are, not just what is trending at the time. And then find a stylist who best represents/ specializes in the style you are going for.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Oooh, picking just one is hard! BUT I would have to say my Avanti Ultra Crimper!
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Start teaching.
Even if you are teaching the wall.
When you break down a hairstyle, and say each step out loud, it makes you think about the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of everything you do. Which ultimately makes you a better stylist.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I LOVE to travel! I want to see as much of the world as I possibly can!
I also love camping in the summer, hanging out with friends + family, and gardening!
Guilty pleasures?
Drinking fancy cocktails and eating fancy cheese!
Those that follow me already, know that I am a member of a cheese club— where we get together once a month to try different types of cheese/ cheese dishes, and drink wine. It’s a club I plan on being in for a long time 🙂
