SANDRA MONZON

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I discovered my passion for braids and hairstyles when I was a child. When I was 11, I made my first hairstyle for my sister’s first communion, it was a high bun. When I was 15 years old in a small town in Guatemala, I wanted to be a hairdresser, so I thought that would be a great opportunity to do what I love and generate more income to help my parents. I tried to get into beauty school but didn’t make it until 5 years ago. With the support of my husband, after finishing beauty school, I started doing more men’s haircuts, which I’m very happy to have learned. Less than 2 years ago, I started practicing more braids and hairstyles because they are my true passion for why I’m in the beauty industry.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
Texture boho hairstyles and big braids.
What new trends can we look forward to?
Undone, boho styles with lots of texture.
How do you stay inspired?
I stay inspired with Pinterest but most of the time Instagram. There are a lot of amazing hair artists out there, which makes me feel inspired all the time.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
I am new to the world of bridal hairstyling, 9 months ago, due to the quarantine, I decided to start playing more with my wig and recreate a lot of braids. Recently, I started taking bridal hairstyling and makeup classes and watching many IG Lives like BTP’s #btpvooo virtual lives, they are some of my favorites! I am very aware that we cannot copy someone else’s style, but we can take the techniques we learn and make them our own. If we focus on wanting to do exactly what others do we may lose the essence of what really makes us happy when we style. Practice, be patient and be open to new ideas and enjoy.
