Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Hi !! My name is Nina and I live in Chicago. I’m originally from Romania. I lived in Austria a few years and then I moved to Chicago 8 years ago.
I started in this industry right after I moved here, when I met this amazing person, Chana, to whom I’ll be forever grateful for believing in me and encouraging me to do this. I’m doing what I love today because of her. I work a lot with human hair wigs because most of my clientele is Jewish and they cover their hair for religious reasons. Working with wigs is a little harder than working with normal hair, for several reasons, one of them being that they have way more hair and you just have to be extra careful with them. I love every bit of it and I wouldn’t change it for anything else. It’s a wonderful community.
I started to go more into styling after one of my clients kept bringing me screenshots of BTP’s page. (Angela, you know the story) I didn’t even have Instagram back then and I was always amazed by those hairstyles. I would go on YouTube and try to find them and learn how to recreate them for my client’s wig. Long story short, I got Instagram and started creating and pushing myself into being better and here I am today, still learning and being inspired by all the amazing stylists I see on this platform
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
Oh wow where do I start ?! There are so many!! Bridal styles have changed a lot from when I was younger and that makes me very happy :))
I love the classic middle part low bun bridal look (Hailey Bieber’s bridal hair) and the Hollywood retro waves, with a side accessory or a small crown.
And, of course, everything boho!! Big braids, half updos with messy waves, I just love that !!
I also started practicing with textured updos. I really love them as well 🙂
What new trends can we look forward to?
I think the textured updos are really in now, those “effortless” (cause they’re really not effortless and we know it😅) The styles that just look so natural and dreamy!! I also love a lot of accessories, but not just the traditional bridal pins, all kinds of flowers, pearls and hair diamonds.
How do you stay inspired?
Instagram for sure!! It’s my only social media platform. I refuse getting Pinterest cause I know I’ll be spending too much time on it!!
Also sometimes, I know this is gonna sound weird, but accessories inspire me a lot!! Sometimes I create a whole style around the accessory I want to use.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Go for your dreams!!! There’s only one of you out there!! Keep learning and practicing but don’t forget to add your own “touch” to every style you do
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Best advice is to go for what makes you feel more like yourself!!
I always say, “if you never wore your hair up because you didn’t like it, why do it on your wedding day?” You want to look your best and feel like yourself on the best day of your life, right?
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Hmm…I would have to say texture spray (obsessed with the Kristin Ess one) and my curling iron but if I only have to choose one, I’ll say curling iron because you can always make hair look pretty just with a curling iron
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
I really hope this doesn’t sound mean, but I’ll be honest “You don’t have to work with clients that stress you out…you can nicely refuse them“ I still use this advice to this day.
What do you love to do outside of work?
If the weather here in Chicago would allow it, I would always be by the beach, I just love it!!
Beside that, working out and watching the show The Office. 😅
Guilty pleasures?
Chocolate all day everyday ..and basically anything that’s sweet.
