SHELBY WEATHERHOLTZ

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I started doing hair in 2007 and after a few years behind the chair I really came to terms that styling hair was my first love. I would always want to go above and beyond for a killer end result and ultimately that started my freelance bridal journey.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m pretty obsessed with romantic cascading styles. Whether it’s down the back or to the side it’s so versatile and there is so much room for creativity in these styles.
What new trends can we look forward to?
The BIG glam Hollywood waves are making a huge comeback and I’m here for it!
How do you stay inspired?
Inspiration is everywhere! I feel daily inspiration can come from the amazing outlets we as stylists now have through social media. If you use Instagram in a way to grow I promise you will do just that. So much free education on there!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Stop comparing your work to others! You are only going to grow and learn more as you work through the years. My work from the start of my career looks nothing like the styles I do now BUT I’m thankful for the growth I’ve made through the years.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Be realistic and listen to your stylists advice regarding your bridal style. For example, if extensions are used in the inspo picture and they feel it would be needed for you as well, trust them! They want to deliver all your hopes and dreams on your big day!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Dry texture spray and Hot tools- how can we pick just one!?
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
It’s ok to say No and be true to yourself. I find the more you do this it makes everyone happy. For example, if your style is more BOHO and you’re not comfortable with more structured styles, be honest with your clients. Have recommendations ready for them on stylists that might better fit their aesthetic. They will appreciate your honesty and so will you when you’re not stressing about the work you’re doing on such an important day!
What do you love to do outside of work?
Spending quality time with the people I love and being outdoors. Also exploring new places- all things that definitely don’t happen nearly enough, but when they do, I’m in heaven!
Guilty pleasures?
Reality TV- it’s a problem
