SINÉAD MARIAN

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I have been styling hair for over 17 years. I started my career in Ireland working for Peter Mark who offers amazing education and opportunities to young stylists. Once I finished my apprenticeship at 23 I couldn’t wait to explore the world so I headed off to the sunny skies of Australia where I worked as a hairdresser in Sydney & Byron Bay for 5 years. I then followed my passion as a bridal hairstylist and set up my own freelance bridal hair business in Byron Bay.
Over the years I have advanced through education with other hairstylists that I admire. My most favourite was a one on one with the very talented Ulyana Aster.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m just in love with soft, effortless, romantic updos. I love effortless ponytails, Flowy half updos & big loose waves for my brides & their bridal party.
What new trends can we look forward to?
More more more of effortless unstructured hair. Brides are moving away from overstated hair. They just want to feel soft and feminine on their wedding day.
How do you stay inspired?
Of course Beyond The Ponytail!! But yes looking to other stylists for inspiration. Instagram is my main go to these days for inspo. I love watching tutorials and seeing how other stylists create their looks. It’s so inspiring and often you will find great little hair hacks and tricks to make things easier or to get that texture that you haven’t quite perfected.
Education is never ending & I love that. It keeps it exciting!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Education education!
Believe in yourself. Allow for mistakes, they happen & they help you grow.
Keep trying no matter what and practice practice!
You can only get better.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Think about when you feel most beautiful. Do you feel like you when you wear your hair up or down?
I believe in enhancing women’s natural beauty & in staying true to you. If you feel most feminine with your hair down then consider it out in beautiful waves. If you don’t think you have enough hair for this you can always use clip in hair extensions. Half updos are one of my favourite down styles. You can have a little fun with this. Get more body or add a soft braid.
If you love your hair up then wear it up! Do you!
Traditional brides are a thing of the past.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
It would have to be Nak done & dusted. Hair powders are one of the best inventions seriously! The texture body & hold you get with them is just priceless.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Actually from my lovely friend Jody Callan Hair. She said to focus on the styles that you love to create and that will attract your dream bride. It’s so true!
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love nature. Being in the forest, it heals the soul!
I also love to try new things. I’m starting a furniture painting course next week. Learning how to bring old pieces back to life. So exciting!
Guilty pleasures?
Ohhhh popcorn and Maltesers mixed together. The salty and the sweet are just yum!!
