LAURA AALTONEN

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
My name is Laura Aaltonen. I graduated cosmetology school 2013 and in 2019 I got further vocational qualification in hairdressing. I live here in Finland and I work in the city of Turku, a Salon called Crystal Salon. I have always loved hairdos and nowadays I also teach them. I also do colors and cuts but updos are my number one. Updos are also my hobby. I have a few Models who come to our house and then I train about 5-9 updos, then style them and photograph them.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I love that the updos are going higher on the head and also with colorful hair accessories and flowers. Nowadays there is so much inspo for the brides on social media which enable them to find just the right style. I would say that individuality is the biggest thing that I appreciate right now. I love the brides that I do, mostly everyone wants something different cause back in 2010 i think everybody wanted the same.
What new trends can we look forward to?
Higher updos, classy, old time Hollywood glamorous looks but also down to earth styles.
How do you stay inspired?
I surrounded myself with inspiring people on social media as in real life. I always find myself finding new inspiring styles on Instagram, Pinterest or the streets. I try to train as much as I can because the more you do the more your brain tries to think of new techniques and styles.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Just love, train and have fun. If you start training with a mannequin head, always finish what you start because you learn more. Be focused on what you want because you will get what you want If you really work hard.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Be yourself, don’t try to be with the look that you don’t feel yourself. The best look is when you feel strong, most beautiful and just yourself. With the right hairstylist you will find the best look for your big day.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
If I had to do a hairdo using only one product, I have to say that would be texturizing spray! And the tool would be a small curling Iron.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Always believe in yourself because sometimes in life you might be the only one who believes in you, but that is enough. Always be focused on your goals.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love to be with my family and friends and love walking alone and listening to music.
Guilty pleasures?
Wine and cheese.
