THERESA FINK

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I started hair school at the Aveda Institute Minneapolis in 2011 and worked throughout the twin cities behind the chair starting at Rocco Altobelli specializing in color. Leaving there and throughout my career working in the salon I found my passion was styling and that’s when Hair By Theresa was born in 2015. I’ve been in Business as HBT since and am only growing!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
Trending for hair with me right now is half up half down with a big boho braid in the back. Otherwise I am loving the unique wedding altars decorated in floral/pampas grass.
What new trends can we look forward to?
Wing Veils! They are BEAUTIFUL my bride this weekend had them and I think they are coming in hot.
How do you stay inspired?
All of the stylists I follow on Instagram and in specific svglamour. Her work is a vibe and she does awesome education videos.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Don’t give up. My first updo’s/first few years were nowhere near where I am today. It took a LOT of practice. I want to post some of my old work to show people. Just keep practicing and doing continuing education for inspiration. I took a lot of models when I was starting just for experience and pictures.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Be realistic about your hair type and the inspo you are looking at. I ask my clients a series of questions at their trial to ensure we are on the same page. MOST of my clients have extensions and I try to express that before anyone even sits in my chair.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Hot tools! I’ve used a number of irons and hot tools never let me down. For the product, Kevin Murphy Doo.over and Kenra volume burst.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Nobody can take your talent from you. Be supportive and helpful of each other, jealousy and envy is only hurting you. Keep learning and supporting.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love hanging out with my nephews Otis and Felix and I go to Orange theory for fitness to keep myself healthy and happy!
Guilty pleasures?
Albanese world’s best gummy bears, crunch wrap supremes from tbell and anything chocolate.
