ALICE KAPITEIN

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Yes! My name is Alice Kapitein and I am 28 years old. I am married and have 2 beautiful kids.
Doing bridal hair is something I haven’t done for a really long time yet. I started bridal hairstyling beginning 2016. I was a secretary at the time but doing bridal hair was constantly going through my mind. I loved doing hair. So when I saw a 2 day Bridal Hair course on Instagram in 2015, I just knew I had to do it. Just to see if I would enjoy it.
When I joined this 2 day Bridal Hair course, I learned so many skills and I also discovered my desire to become an educator one day.
Soon after that course, I bought my first real human hair mannequin and started practicing and posting the styles on FB and IG. I was getting many messages from people asking me if I could do their hair. So in 2016 I stopped working on Fridays in the office and started styling brides and wedding guests on that day.
In 2017 I officially started my business and got my own salon and started teaching. First, I taught many courses on how to braid and style your own hair. After that, I started bridal courses and 1:1 sessions. Now I have created my own online course CLEAN BRIDAL HAIR ACADEMY.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I LOVE the Glamour waves and clean updo’s.
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
I think Glamour waves (Hollywood waves). My brides are asking for it all the time and I didn’t really see it last year.
How do you stay inspired?
First of all, I love the IG page Beyond the Ponytail @beyondtheponytail . I have followed that page for over 7 years now or so. I love all the variations of styles there. I just love to scroll on instagram and watch many videos.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Keep practicing! Practicing is the key to growth. Find a style that you like (for example: clean styles/ bohemian styles/russian styles etc), and focus on that. Don’t try to master ALL of the styles out there.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Find a hairstylist that creates styles you like. If you want something clean, find a hairstylist who creates lots of clean hairstyles. Do you want a boho hairstyle, find a hairstyles who has lots of boho styles on her feed. Every stylist has their own unique skills. This will ensure that you are getting the hairstyle you really want!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
SPRAYWAX for sure!
