Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I’ve done a full circle in the hair industry. I obtained my Cosmetologist licensed when I graduated high school. I worked in a salon for 9 years while I attended college classes at night. I left the hair industry when I graduated from Sul Ross State University with a degree in Criminology and a minor in Psychology to pursue my dreams of working for U.S. Homeland Security. I left the Government after 11 years to be a stay-at-home mom. Four years ago, I started working with hair, but this time, I mainly focused on dressing/styling hair. I freelanced and worked my own weddings in South Texas, and for the last 3 years, I’ve been doing the same, but in the Washington DC area.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m in love with soft, clean, and polished hairstyles. They’re so elegant and romantic. They’re my favorite!
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
Hollywood/Glam waves! They have been SO trendy this season and we will continue to see them in 2022.
How do you stay inspired?
My inspiration comes from collaborations, education (in-person and online), and social media like Instagram. I love viewing Beyond the Ponytail’s Instagram page daily since they feature a variety of bridal hair styles and artists within the community.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
“Education is the key to success”. This is a phrase I’ve always lived by. If you admire someone’s work, find out if they offer classes. Invest in your education and practice daily!
Say “YES” to every opportunity that comes along. I did a lot of work for FREE at the beginning of my career in order to put my name out there.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Choose a style that makes you feel beautiful and like yourself.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
A crimper!
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Fake it until you make it! I know it sounds cliché. Believe in yourself and your abilities.
What do you love to do outside of work?
Spending time with my husband and boys. Bike rides on sunny days.
Guilty pleasures?
Sweets and more Sweets!
