Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Hair has always been my thing! I worked in salons cutting and colouring, but whenever there was a chance of a photoshoot or wedding I was so excited to be involved!
I started working freelance 10 yrs ago, then last year just before lock down I opened my home salon in a boho styled log cabin. It’s a peaceful little haven overlooking the fields, where brides can relax and be pampered. It’s been a year like no other with all the lockdowns and weddings being postponed! Pretty scary at times, but it’s given me the opportunity to practice and perfect my boho style, and really push my brand. I feel so lucky to have made a career from something I feel so passionate about!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m loving half up half downs, that’s been so popular with my brides this season, with lots of natural texture, chunky braids are still a favourite too!
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
Brides embracing their natural waves and curls, keeping it simple not over styled hair. Dried flower hair accessories coming into autumn/winter will be a big favourite to!
How do you stay inspired?
I’m always so hungry to learn, to push myself to develop new styles and perfect what I do. So i’m constantly looking for new inspiration. I create a lot of pinterest boards, not just of hair but images that represent my brand. To create my boho style I need to have my head in the right creative space! For me that’s imagining myself walking on a beautiful sandy beach with the sea air blowing through your hair, or in the countryside walking through the wildflowers, these are the places that bring my styles to life!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
To be a bridal stylist you need to have a natural creative flare but without hard work and practice that talent wont grow! Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process of learning and developing your style.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Get your hair in its best condition before the big day, with regular trims and conditioning treatments and turn down the heat!
Don’t think you can’t have a style because your hair is too short or too fine.
I love creating brides a style they didn’t think was possible, extensions give you more creative possibilities!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
My curl bar from Hot tools, love the curls it gives and the dry finish texture spray from Eleven Australia, just the right product for those undone effortless styles!
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
I joined a business club run by Jo Loves Hair when I first started to invest in my bridal business. Joe always said your vibe attracts your tribe, and that’s so true!
Focusing on what your talents are and knowing what makes you unique will attract your ideal bride. Now when brides bring me inspo pictures of my work, that’s really rewarding!
What do you love to do outside of work?
We have two gorgeous dogs, Troy the English Bull terrier and Reggie the Pug!
They’re a big part of my salon. I’m sure some of my clients come just to see them!
Out of work we enjoy lots of walks in the countryside and by the beach.
And I’ve just tried kayaking, so much fun, I think that will be my new hobby!
Guilty pleasures?
Definitely online clothes shopping! A bridal stylist can never have too many clothes..
