Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I have been behind the chair for a little over 20 years. I was lucky enough to take the cosmetology course while I was still in high school. I then began educating for color and fell in love with teaching. This year I officially started full-time on my own as a bridal hairstylist and educator.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I’m really into this “fluffy”, soft texture I keep seeing. It’s a beautiful mash-up of boho and elegant and I am slightly obsessed right now!
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
No matter if it’s up or down, middle parts and high shine are becoming highly requested. Buns seem to be moving a little higher up on the head and Half-Ups are definitely here to stay.
How do you stay inspired?
It’s not easy and I think the first part is always being kind to yourself if you are just not feeling it at the moment. Allow yourself to take breaks. Otherwise learning something new in the industry always excites and inspires me. I’ll either take a class or practice something I feel I need to work on and it always helps.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Surround yourself with driven people that inspire you. Being around people that love what they do and do it well rubs off in the best ways. It’s always helped me to keep my head in the game and set new goals for myself. No matter if it’s shadowing stylists you look up to or putting yourself out there by asking for advice, it’s worth it. And you can do it!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
I always say it’s really all about the front for the client. If they can narrow down how they love seeing the front of their hair, we can work our magic from there. They will almost always be happy and love the way they look in the mirror and photos. Also, if your stylist recommends extensions it’s for the best reasons and you will not regret it!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I use the Kare Co New Tangle Buster Brush before every curl on every client. I love the smoothing and shine it creates. It’s very gentle on the hair, it has a mix of bristles that help with static and fly-aways, it’s great for brushing out waves and brushing over hair extensions. I definitely couldn’t do a style without it.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
You can quite literally do anything you want to do. Everything will always work out if you’re doing the things that make you happy.
What do you love to do outside of work?
Being with my family is my favorite thing by far. I always have music playing and anytime I can enjoy the outdoors in NJ I am a very happy girl!
Guilty pleasures?
Raw cookie dough and 90’s music.
