Timea Breban

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
I’m Timea and I’m a hairstylist based in the UK. I specialise in bridal and editorial hairstyling. I came into the profession because I always wanted to do something creative and which makes people happy. I love working with hair and my greatest joy is to see the finished result and the smile it brings to my clients’ face. I have been a hairstylist on and off for 13 years. In between, I trained and worked as a medical secretary and I also have a bachelor’s degree in English, but my heart was always drawn to hairstyling. Now I am here to stay! I originally trained as a hairstylist in Romania and have also trained in the UK with some of the best including the amazing Kevin from The Kevin Fortune Academy, where I learnt about session styling for editorial and catwalk, and also gained some great insights and experience for working with Afro textured hair. I also trained with the lovely and talented Kasia Fortuna from the Kristina Gasperas Academy where I was able to expand my knowledge and skills for bridal hairstyling.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
Right now I’m loving boho and classic styles. I love the playfulness of boho hairstyles and that you can get so creative but at the same time I really appreciate old time classics like the Hollywood wave.
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
I believe the textured airy hairstyles will definitely stay with us but I can see from the enquiries that the Hollywood waves are still very much in demand.
How do you stay inspired?
Like in any other profession it is important to keep learning in order to be on top of your game. One of my great inspirations is Tonya Stylist. Like her I aim to develop my own signature styles.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Practice, practice, practice. Never give up. Be open to learning but also to failing because we learn from our mistakes. Choose your inspirations carefully. Do your research. Find the best and learn from them.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Try to be as realistic as possible with your expectations. All hair is different so make sure you choose a style that matches the texture, the length and the colour of your hair. Don’t underestimate the importance of hair extensions – trust me, you will need them!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Texturizing spray. Texture is everything.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
I will never forget hearing Patrick Cameron say, “always be a good human.”
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love keeping myself fit by going running, doing box fit and yoga. When I have some extra time I love reading. I love spending time with my husband and our dog, going for long walks in nature. I love traveling and dancing (especially Latin dance) although I haven’t had much time for that lately. I hope to get back to it.
Guilty pleasures?
Binge-watching a series.
