Rachel Jones

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Born and raised a California girl currently living in Canada! Knowing I always wanted to style hair, I went to cosmetology school as soon as I could after graduating in 2015. At age 19, I was working on tv sets, fashion shows, salon life and the occasional bride! Styling always had my heart but at the time I didn’t know of anyone being a “full-time” stylist. After a few years dabbling in California, I relocated to Canada to pursue hair on Netflix, as well as weddings in the Rocky Mountains. In the last year I have had the honor of growing my bridal hair clientele and social media with the support of online courses and have been the key hairstylist on 4 movies!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
The more glam the happier I am! Elegant updos and soft, yet bold Hollywood waves have me swooning. Timeless styling has always been my go to, but if you can make a classic style have a modern twist- that’s even better.
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
I foresee the “Kim K” wedding hair popping up lots on my feed. With hair tucked behind the ears at the front and a subtle Hollywood wave down the back. It’s the perfect combo for 2022.
How do you stay inspired?
100% through my peers and making my brides feel their best. Instagram can be a challenging or motivating platform depending on who you surround yourself with. I am also a sucker for writing my goals down! It keeps me on track for where I want to be in my styling future.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
Find like minded stylists who inspire you! From there, see if they offer any styling courses and be willing to reach out and ask for advice and invest in yourself. No matter how long you are in the industry, always be open to learning and networking!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
You should first find your dress. From here, know what kind of styles you are drawn to. If you love beach, boho, princess glam or even minimalist elegance, Pinterest and Instagram tags are your best friends! On the occasion that you are completely unsure of your dream hair, just ask! Stylists are trained to help bring out your most beautiful features ensuring you feel your best on the big day!
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
Schwarzkopf Level 3 Hairspray. Sitting in my Uphayr Pro Stylist belt, of course;)
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
After training with master stylist Cara Clyne I learned how important it is to have a “Signature Style.” Times have changed from when any stylist was expected to do every style. But now I would say most stylists have their signature “look” and this will attract the clientele you are seeking! What you brand yourself to be is how the world sees you.
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love working out, but baking and creating new products for my Uphayr brand (@Uphayr_shop)come in a close second. My passion for creating products in our industry are endless and hopefully one day I am able to expand my line!
Guilty pleasures?
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups from Trader Joes… don’t say I didn’t warn you
