Wedding Ready Tips: Dos and Don’ts

The big day is coming, you’ve put so much effort into all of the details for your special day, and now it’s time to get wedding ready. So, how can you truly relax and enjoy your big day, while making sure all the details are covered? We asked wedding expert, Hollie Parsons to add some of her top tips, and here are our top dos and don’ts to getting ready for your wedding day.
1. Do make a morning playlist to set the vibes of your wedding day.
Although a member of your wedding party can put one together for you, make sure you preview it first so it has songs that are memorable & meaningful to you!
2. Do set up your wedding shoes, jewelry, and perfume for the photographer.
It saves them from bugging you while you’re trying to relax and get ready for your special day. Items to include might be a decorative hanger for your dress, flowers or other foliage that might represent the aesthetic of your wedding, vows or a notebook, any other significant items that are meaningful to represent your couple-hood which adds meaning into your wedding story.

3. Do make sure everyone who wants their hair & makeup done is booked in.
With so many moving parts the morning of your wedding, last minute surprises like having extra guests wanting their hair and makeup done will add time into the “getting ready” process, taking time away from the rest of your wedding day.
4. Do ask your hair & makeup artists for a prep schedule.
This will help not only to stay organized, but to make sure those who have longer hair or need more time to prepare are set in the right order. This will help you stress less about timing and most vendors are happy to sort this for you.
5. Don’t start drinking alcohol too early.
Think of your wedding day as a marathon, not a sprint. Early celebration can lead to feeling drowsy, heightened emotions, or not feeling so great on a day you’ve been looking forward to the most.

6. Don’t assume everyone knows what to do.
Delegating will lead to a better flow in the day and everyone will feel good knowing how they can contribute to helping your wedding day run smoothly.
7. Don’t skip y0ur hair and makeup trial.
Building a great relationship with your suppliers before your wedding day is an important step in ensuring everyone is confident in giving you the look you’ll have documented for the rest of your life. For a complete list of our top bridal hairstylists, visit our global directory.
8. Do make sure someone is in charge of the small children.
If your wedding is kid friendly, having appointed caregivers is a vital part in ensuring your wedding will flow with ease and won’t get overthrown by babies’ needs.
9. Don’t steam your dress on the day of your wedding.
Do it in the evening before or get someone else to do it before they have their hair done.

10. Don’t leave your hair dirty for your hairstylist.
Along with this, do make sure your extensions are clean if you have them. Despite what you may have learned from other articles, clean hair is always a winner. Also do keep in mind…humidity = frizz. Your hairstylist will have the proper tools to combat this for you so that your hair is on point for your wedding day.
11. Do allow time for photos.
This tip may seem obvious, but it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re enjoying yourself and photos are the big things that can often get squeezed on timing.
12. Don’t take photos on your phone.
Get someone else to take charge of photos & videos on your big day. This is a great way to add some fun to your morning, document your day, as well as calm those nerves.
13. Do make sure you eat.
It’s easy to think you’ll find time to sneak a quick bit in, but nerves can take over, and eating can easily get forgotten about. The last thing you want on your wedding day is to feel faint or sick just because you forgot to eat.
14. Do know where your hair accessories are.
This goes for any small & detailed items that can easily get stuffed, hidden, or forgotten on the big day such as marriage certificate documents, wedding specific undergarments, extensions or lashes.

15. Do make sure your hair extensions are clean.
Unkept or dirty extensions can really stand out in photos or not look blended to your natural hair. Not to mention, it can be very challenging for your hairstylist to recreate the hair of your dreams on one of those most meaningful days of your life.
Above all else, don’t stress. Know that the research you’ve done and all the hard work you put into creating such a magical day, will be one of the best days of your life. Afterall, this day is all about celebrating you and your partner with all of your loved ones.
