Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
Well, I’m actually quite early on in my styling game! A few years ago I left salon life after 12 years to pursue something completely different. But that didn’t last, I missed hairdressing so much and ended up throwing myself into the bridal industry with absolutely NO experience. Upstyling was something I always ran from in the salon – I still don’t know what I was thinking when I signed up to the very thing that caused me so much anxiety for all the years before. It really challenged me creatively and professionally and the first few months were really, really hard. I learnt a lot through the mistakes I made and I quickly became obsessed with finding ways to be faster and better than the last time. And I’m so glad I pushed myself!
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I have absolutely loved seeing brides embrace their natural curl in their upstyles at the moment! I love seeing the layered texture, giving the hair a whole new dimension.
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
Less is more. I’m forecasting super natural, soft texture almost ‘done it myself’ type of upstyling. Also, brides cutting their hair off after the ceremony! Love that!
How do you stay inspired?
Instagram! I’ve got to say, being exposed to limitless amounts of talented stylists and the ability to also connect with each other is pretty amazing.
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
It’s okay to say ‘no’ to a bride that isn’t your vibe. We don’t have to be amazing at everything.
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Find a stylist that suits your ‘inspo’. Personally, I could give you a great textured pony but I wouldn’t be able to give you the vintage waves that some of the other great stylists I know could.
Also, PSA – you do not need to grow your hair for 2 years to have an upstyle! It actually can be more difficult to get that ‘undone’ look with super long, grown out hair.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I can not live without Moroccanoil Dry Texture spray – game changer.
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
Put the work out that you want to get back. I love how with social media we can literally attract our dream client!
What do you love to do outside of work?
For sure family time with my husband and little boy, Freddie.
Guilty pleasures?
I do love a binge watch with the Real Housewives!
