Kyley Williams-Poirier

Can you tell us a little more about you and your styling background?
My name is Kyley Williams-Poirier. I live in Rome, Maine with my husband, our two children, and our fur babies. I am a newly licensed hair stylist as of 2021. I have always wanted to be a hairdresser since as far back as I can remember. I started with doing my grandfather’s hair in little ponytails and graduated to styling my friends and fellow pageant competitors. When I got out of school I went to college for nursing for a few years until I got pregnant with my first son and had to work. After a while I was finally able to go to cosmetology school. The pandemic struck and delayed a lot of things. However, during this time I was able to discover my passion which is braiding, bridal styling and color. Once I was able to graduate school I had tons of weddings lined up and have been immensely grateful and humbled that I get to wake up and do what I love every day.
What bridal trends are you loving right now?
I am absolutely loving these romantic upstyles with the heavy face frames. I’ve also been loving the low buns! There’s so many unique ways to customize these styles to what you like and they go with so many different dress types.
What new trends can we expect to see this season?
I’m getting French vibes! French twists, French high “bun/pony” styles.
How do you stay inspired?
I stay inspired by going to the local flower shop, browsing Etsy hair accessories, and seeing other artists work! I’m the most inspired after some time with nature!
What advice would you give to a bridal hairstylist just getting started?
I would say BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! Rome wasn’t built in a day. Seek out education online and in person from Beyond the Ponytail and your favorite artists. Pick your favorite styles and perfect them! Also, never sell yourself or your art short!
Best advice to a bride regarding her hairstyle?
Close your eyes and think about a time when you felt exceptionally beautiful. What did your hair look like? Was it down and curled? Styled for prom or someone’s wedding? Now think of how you envision yourself on your wedding day. Are you thinking of a hair style? If so, what does it look like? The point of this is to brainstorm together. I can tell you what I think would look beautiful but what is your vision? Let’s figure it out together! You should feel like your most gorgeous, confident, but mostly comfortable self. Some brides want exquisite braided art, while others find themselves wanting to feel more “like themselves”. Get a bridal stylist who will hear you and bring your vision to life.
What is the one product/tool you can not live without?
I would say AIIR Professional texture spray. I’m obsessed. If I had a second product I would say their shine spray. The texture spray does sooo much for me when I’m styling and the shine spray tops it off and pulls the look together. My tool I would say is my hair wand. I love that thing!
Best advice you have ever been given in the hair industry?
It took me a while, but I discovered that being authentic to myself was the best advice. Seems vague and sort of cringy. But it’s true! It’s easy to fall into the chasing followers and chasing “cliques” but staying true to yourself and what you love and believe is going to make you the happiest and the money and clients will follow. The clients and money that will follow you will feel good and bring you joy. Stay true to you!
What do you love to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my family! When we go somewhere, even to the grocery store it brings me joy. I like traveling and playing with my kids and dog. I love self care! After work I’m in my jammies with a face mask on! I also love reading, definitely love cooking and shopping!
Guilty pleasures?
Guilty pleasures, well I have a bit of a sweet tooth. So, yummy sweet treats from our local bakery are a total guilty pleasure. I also am a huge supernatural anything fan. You can catch me watching UFO docs, ghost adventures, or any type of conspiracy theory show on tv at night!
